Cohen's Kindergarten Egg Hunt & Easter Party

Friday was Cohen's turn for an Easter party!  The kindergarten was having a big egg hunt followed by their Easter party.  Everything started at 2:00.  We were rushing against beating the rain and thankfully it all held off so the kids could hunt eggs outside.   There were so many eggs!   Cohen found all her basket could hold!  Easter has become as big for candy as Halloween!  After the egg hunt we headed back to her classroom for their Easter snack.  They were all having a ball!  I'm so glad they still get to have these parties because it really is so much fun for them.  I remember having all that fun in elementary school too.  I'm also glad Cohen doesn't miss out on the fun since she hears about Kate getting to go to the library egg hunt.  I have to always remind her that she got to do that too and still does fun things at school that Kate doesn't get to do.

Since Sug had Kate for me to go to Cohen's Easter party we decided to go ahead and dye eggs when we got home while it was just the 2 of us.  Cohen had picked out a marble egg dye kit so I wasn't sure how complicated it would get, but it was fun for us.  I miss getting one on one time with her and I think its something you don't realize your missing out on until its just the 2 of us.  Our marble eggs were a success.  We now have lots of boiled eggs to give to Bebe since she can use them ;)

Kate's Library Egg Hunt & Egg Dyeing Fun

Last Wednesday was our regular library day.  This week would be their Easter egg hunt.  Miss Jordan read them their Easter books then everyone made a little bunny craft while she hid the eggs.  Thanks to winter showing back up we had to hunt eggs inside.  The weather has just been awful!  Lucky for the kids, they love hunting eggs anywhere so they seemed just fine with it.  Kate was thrilled to find that inside her eggs was a little play frog and little rubber snake.   Those are right up her alley.  She also opened 2 suckers to taste them both.

Thursday Carolina came over to dye eggs and make another Easter craft with Kate.  The girls made handprint bunnies and then dyed eggs, all in between some playtime of course.  I think they were both amazed at how strong vinegar smells!  They did love watching the eggs change colors too.  Its fun because I feel like Kate is really enjoying everything so much this year.  I love dyeing eggs and will be doing it again with Cohen.  It just worked out this year to do it separate with each girl which worked out fine.  I feel like it gave me a little one on one fun time with each.

Cohen's Kindergarten Field Trip

I have some catching up to do on this blog.  Earlier this month Cohen had her kindergarten field trip.  They went to the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.  Cohen had talked about riding on the school bus for a while and her concern was not having seat belts, but I assured her it would be safe.  I was also glad that I was going to be going with her on the bus and getting to experience everything with her.  When we got there the classes went to a workshop and got to make their own puppet.  The show they were seeing was Charlotte's Web so their puppet was a spider.  After making the puppet we ate lunch then headed in to the puppet show.   I think she really enjoyed it all and its always fun to have a little break from school work, even though Cohen loves kindergarten no matter what they are doing.  And even though we did have an adventurous bus ride, she liked that too!

Zoo Fun!

I'm late posting this because I actually forgot that I had not posted it already.  You can see that my mind is a little scattered!  The Sunday of Cohen's "mini" spring break we decided to take the girls to the zoo.  Cohen had asked about going to the Atlanta zoo to see the pandas and this was a fun little day trip to tie in with spring break.  We decided to go on Sunday after Sunday school.  Cohen invited Savannah to come with her.  It was a little chilly unfortunately but we made the best of it.  We all had a quick picnic lunch then headed into the zoo to check out all the animals.  The girls loved running from animal to animal.  Both of my girls love animals and we thought Kate would really love seeing them.  Cohen still says the giraffes are her favorite, Kate said she liked the lions the best (who knows but since we saw the baby lions she probably did enjoy that!), Kelly could have watched the monkeys all day, and I loved the pandas.  The twin panda babies are too cute!  We also got a good show from the 2 tigers there at the zoo.  They are in separate areas but could see each other through the glass and that seemed to have them all in a stir.   We also watched a bird show which was neat and the girls loved seeing all the different birds.  It was a fun trip and the rain held off until right when we were getting ready to leave.  Perfect timing!  We topped our zoo trip off with dinner at P.F. Changs, my favorite so that was great!

Miss Spring Jam 2014!

This past Saturday was Cohen's 2nd baton competition in Anderson, S.C.  She was so excited to get to compete again and even though the morning started off very rough for us (think whining and crying as we get ready), Cohen did absolutely wonderful at the competition.  Baton competitions are a little different and can be confusing when you explain the awards to someone.  Cohen competes for a title in her age division which consists of 3 scores from modeling, marching/strut, and her baton solo.  She also does each of these events in open competition, for example open marching, open solo. So all together she models at least twice, marches twice, and does her solo twice and most of the time each one is in front of a different judge.  You may be great for one judge and not so great for another. It was hard for me to learn and we are still learning a lot as we go to each competition.  I tell her as long as she is having fun we will go and she loves it!  This past weekend Cohen really amazed me and she WON her title for her age group.   Since this was only her second competition we were so proud for her.  Throughout the day you are only made aware of the open event scores and its not until the end that you find out the title winners.  When they called her name for first place I really just wanted to run to her but there were still more awards to hand out so I had to wait, but I was so excited for her and she was excited too!  She loved her big pink trophy, and really loved the Easter basket she won with a big chocolate bunny in it.  I think the Easter basket had caught her eye from the moment we got to the competition.  Mrs. Amy, her teacher, laughs and says she can always get good results from Cohen when she bribes her with candy bars, so maybe the chocolate bunny had caught her eye too!  Either way we were thrilled for our little twirler and so proud of her.  She also brought home the 5-6 modeling queen trophy so she got to add 2 trophies and 2 medals to her room.  The medals had come from her open modeling and marching.
Cohen had modeled 3 times that morning and the first 2 times she had really did a great job.  The last time she modeled I think she barely even had a smile on her face.  I told her she had to keep that smile on and that not smiling would show in her score and it had.  She had only been 5th place in that particular event.  I think seeing that really helped her though because when she went out for her next marching events that smile was back on and she was 2nd place.  Both were open events and at the end of the day we saw she had placed 1st in both modeling and marching in her title events which sealed that win.  Cohen's teammate Mya was 2nd place!  Mya had an awesome day and actually had a no drop solo!  These girls are AMAZING!   I'm so glad Cohen has made such sweet friends too.  Mrs. Amy is the best teacher and is so good with these girls.  We couldn't be prouder to be apart of All the Right Moves!

I.N.K. Fun

Thursday and Friday were the 2 whole days Cohen was getting for spring break.  Since we had so many days out for snow and only go on a 160 day calendar, spring break was quickly lost!   I hated that the kids lost those days but I know there isn't many more days left before the whole school year will end!  Thursday we had a down day here around the house.  I had debated doing something with the girls but I know sometimes they really just love being home playing with each other and that is what we did.  Friday we did have plans.  Sara had asked us to go to I.N.K. in Gainesville with her and the girls for a little early celebration for Addison's birthday.  I.N.K. is a lot like the children's museum and the girls really had a ball running from room to room playing with everything.  I think Kate enjoyed the vet room the most.  My little animal lover.  Cohen and Savannah seemed to enjoy every room!  Aunt Vicki came to join us in the fun too!  After playing a little while she brought in lunch and then they were back to playing again.  After we left we made a stop at Grannie and Papa's house before coming home.  Both girls had a blast and I thought would pass out in the car but they didn't!  When we got home they were ready to play outside then we went to have dinner with the Harbin's.  I think day 2 of spring break was definitely a fun one for them!

12 1/2 weeks!

This past Wednesday I had my 12 1/2 week check up at the doctor.  It was an ultrasound appointment so those are always exciting.  This time the baby actually looked like a baby!  Its funny to see how much can change in just a few weeks.  Kate is my faithful companion at the doctor's appointments and she is learning that she will see a baby on the little T.V.  Kelly was also there this time so he could hold her up to see.  She really just likes to get the pictures at the end but she is so good throughout the entire appointment.  It was neat to watch because when we started the ultrasound the baby was head down and then right there on the screen it flipped right over for us to be face up.  We all got a kick out of all the movement!  It was moving so much, kicking its feet and moving its arms.  We had an active one on our hands so we got a good show.  Everything looked great though which is good news.  There was a very strong heartbeat....just like my girls!  Might be looking at more pink...who knows?!
